Moving Beyond-Boundingly Forward

BEST OF NEWS, BOYS AND GIRLS!

I just got into my dream program for my master's!  That's right, I'll be doing a Master's in Public History at Carleton in the fall.  The professor who will be supervising my work just called to let me know, and I CAN'T WAIT to get the ball rolling on this!

I've been missing school, I've been missing academic history, and I've been missing doing research in the form of watching old NFB movies.  And in just a few short months, it'll be my day-to-day yet again!

This basically sums up how I feel:

I'm too jazzed to do anything but gush about this!  No time for hair or make-up or bloutfits for this gal!

Aaah!

What's Wrong With a Bunch of Flowers

Little snapshots of history can be found anywhere, boys and girls!

I missed it the first time I watched it, but the narrator states very quickly at the beginning that  "if you want a new hat, now that hats are rationed, there are ways and means."  Now that hats are rationed.

I love these British Pathe Vintage Fashion videos on YouTube.  They're just so colourful, and such awesome examples of the history of everyday life.  I  love how it's narrated by a man, I love how joyless all of the models look, and I love the little digs about women spending their husband's money that they pepper into most of these vintage videos.

Well, I say love.  Love as in interest, not commend, haha!  For example, I LOVE the First World War.  I wouldn't have wished it to happen for all the world, but it's just SO INTERESTING.  So much changed about warfare, modern life, artistic expression, the list goes on and on.  Seriously though, if you ever wanna talk The Great War, I'm your gal.

And if you wanna talk hat rationing and turbans in the Second World War, I'm your gal for that too.

Your friend Lina

Winter Again

So as everyone has noticed it this neck of the woods, but it's winter again boys and girls!

To accompany the blustery wind and blowing snow, I've also busted out this old scarf of mine.  I made probably about two or three years ago now, but it is the warmest, stretchiest, most cozy thing I own.  That plus this over-the-knee socks makes this resurgent cold totally bearable.

All these dark, blue, and wintry pieces also put me in mind of a very good friend of mine who frequents this palette as much as I frequent black with punches of red or leopard print.  So a tribute to her as well as a tribute to practicality!

Scarf - Hand-made
Cardigan - Primark
Shirt - Joe Fresh
Skirt - Forever 21
Tights - Joe Fresh
Socks - American Apparel
Ring - Gift from my cousin

Lots of varients herein will be donned in the next little while, I can assure you boys and girls!

Also, I promise that I will soon address the wonderment that was Ottawa Fashion Week.  I'm also going to have a fun announcement in the next few weeks as well!

Keep warm boys and girls!

Leon Trotsky Thinks You're Hotsky

I hope it's going to be a nice day filled with nice people, boys and girls!

Just a few quick things. . .

1) I just won tickets to Ottawa Fashion Week from Apt613!  So I'll be heading there this weekend with a friend for a make-over (included in the package) and to soak in all the local fashion glory!

2) These are hilarious.  Maybe print some out and give them to someone special?  Or just put them up on your own wall because you are pretty special? The possibilities are endless!

3) Nothing says I love you like dictatorgrams!

Happy Balemtimes!

Love,

Your friend Lina
